Witan 1s 1 - 4 Reigatians 2s

Witan returned to their cursed home pitch for a match against bottom of the table Reigate on Saturday.

Witan made a terrific start when Rudnai sent a fizzing cross into Mikey Savage at the far post. Unfortunately Mikey couldnt quite turn it in. The breakthrough came when Rudnai broke the offside trap on the right wing and his delivery flew in.

Tom Bangerter assisted with a perfectly timed pass. Any suggestion of this being a wayward cross was immediately shut down by Rudders. Twenty minutes in.

The opposition's speedy albino winger found his way in and lifted the ball over Keir into an open goal.

Danny Payne then came out of nowhere with a flying header to prevent a goal. Twenty five minutes in Johnny Page displays a strange throw-in technique for an obvious foul throw which even made the ref laugh. This proved to be the first of many foul throws from the Witan.

Bangerter provided much needed creativity in the first half and was even heard to shout "did you just see my David Beckham pass?" after completing a simple 5 yard pass.

Witan went in at half time 1 nil up and this was where the game ended for the team. Witan failed to take their chances and Reigate scored two goals on the counter in the second half.

Hope came in the form of late addition of our Brazillian wizard Deybson who only decided to turn up for the second half due to a broken moped. Deybson immediately sparked an improvement in our passing. But will be remembered for an ambitious volley from way way out which flew into the clouds.

65th minute Almos Beer was completely destroyed by a Neymar nutmeg from a player who lated failed to score an open goal from a yard out.

Another highlight came in the 75th minute as Marcus morphed into a prime Dani Alves. The right back went on a mazey run from his own half and dribbled past 4 players until through on goal.

The move sadly ended with a shanked pass for a goal kick rather than a goal of the season contender.

However reliable sources have confirmed that Marcus did manage to score off the pitch at the Witan Drunk Santa Social later that day Witan continued to press but were rushing everything unfortunately.

Witan then went 3-1 down caught out on the counter again. A bright spark came in the shape of Ben Wright who showed a great fighting spirit. Completing a fantastic mazy run in the 80th minute only to to be two footed and injured by the Reigate CM, picking up his seasonal "2 months out" injury.

A minute later the ball played over the defence and an injured Ben put his body on the line to sprint and defend the attack on his own. The game ended frantically as Reigate broke free from a corner and scored a fourth.

All in all a disappointing day for Witan as the Barnes pitch curse continued. The loss was however soon forgotten at the world's finest annual Drunk Santa Pub Crawl.
